Mid-March Evening Stroll

Metrotown seen across Burnaby Lake at sunset

You can see the skyline of Metrotown across the lake. I have to tell you that the whole of Greater Vancouver is filled with parkland, unclaimed forest and waterways where bears roam and birds squawk and squirrels run and brambles ramble. It is hard to throw a stone without hitting one, something I am growing to appreciate as I find dry places to walk a dog who loves mud.

These are pictures from my walk last night with Katy and Etta. We went to Burnaby Lake around 7pm. It was a lovely evening, the sunset was glorious and the crows (or ravens) were murdering in the tree tops. It was much easier taking pictures whilst Katy held the dog and I managed some nice shots of her too. Etta that is not the beautiful Katy. As the sun went down there was a slight nip in the air as we walked amid trees and brambles. Peace, tranquillity and rest amid a busy city, barely a stone's throw from the Highway.

A Murder of Crows in the trees at Burnaby Lake

The Murder of Crows. There were so many of these flocking in the trees, squawking and just perched watching the goings on down below. Note the crystalline blue of the sky behind them, a sign of the nip to come as the sun fell.
Sunset on Burnaby Lake
Golden streaks, faded to pinks and peach but by that time we were back in the car and I missed it. next time I promise but for now enjoy the glory of a city sunset across water.

The boardwalk at Burnaby Lake from Piper Street

There's a wide variety of waterfowl here, or so I assume by the number of photographers set up on this dock. Dogs aren't allowed on this boardwalk, because of the birds I guess, so we were up in a steel tower looking down. Snap! Gotcha.

Our Siberian Husky, Etta

She's a very good girl - when she wants to be - but when she looks at you with those eyes and that lolling tongue she is mischief incarnate and who can stay cross?
Our Siberian Husky distracted but still Etta
Did I mention that at 6 months she has the attention span of a child on a sugar high? Not sure what caught her eyes but she went from being fully focused lavishing love and long licks on me (mental licks that is) to staring at something moving in the marshland. Ooh a squirrel?

Crows flying from the trees at Burnaby Lake

Something spooked the birds and the raucous cries and flurry of wings made me think they got some emergency phone call. 911 anyone? Alfred Hitchcock on the line maybe...

So, the main problem with the walks around Burnaby Lake is you can't actually see the Lake. I am posting this late, it's the day after and this morning I went to Barnet Marine Park and the pictures from there are totally self-indulgent. I hope you like them, stay posted because they will be up soon.
